Modeling and Simulation

Simulate into the Future

CoTs specializes in modeling and simulation for undersea and airborne systems, autonomous and towed.  This technology has been proven and validated against flight data from submarines, AUVs, ROVs, Seal & Swimmer Delivery Vehicles, aircraft, UAVs and more.  These methods are applicable to both system with conventional geometries and those with unusual geometric characteristics.  Quantitative engineering is a core value for making system design decisions, enabled by our simulation-based approach.

State of the Art

We have the unique capability for predicting the hydrodynamic coefficients of all types of undersea vehicles prior to scale-model testing.  Our technology uses advanced methods for computing the linear and nonlinear hydrodynamic forces and moments for all types of vehicles as a function of their geometry.  This simulation technology can then execute a non-linear maneuvering code for any of these vehicles, including towed system cable dynamics.

Lower Project Risk

Predict failure modes in worst-case or rigorous sea conditions, including:

  • Motion steadiness exceeding sensor requirements
  • Porpoise & plunge while snorkeling in high sea states
  • Predicting scenarios where cable tension exceeds limit (towed systems)

Quantify “Get-Home Capability” in event of multiple failures occurring simultaneously or sequentially in flight

Simulate failure responses through simulation-based testing to quantify the effects of the failure and identify effective responses, for example:

  • Fin actuator failure
  • Flooding of ballast tank
  • Depth sensor failure

Simulate high-risk test events that provide great insight but are too high-risk to perform in sea-testing
